Ok myself and Thanasis have found the issue. You need to have the “playsinline” option. This will be added in the next update. This works regardless of file size etc.
Thanks
DanOk after much research and testing last night. This seems to not be theme specific, i.e. I have the same issue in Crocal.
The videos play fine as a background to a row.
But no matter what I do to the video it won’t play using the video shortcode.
This is with sound off, controls off, loop on, autoplay on.
If I turn controls on it will be fine, but obvs this doesn’t look as good.
This is only in iOS, but regardless of what browser I use. And its not low power mode.
Desktop and Android are fine.
I found this apple article, but it’s a bit above my head.
I’m sure this worked some time ago, but maybe I’m confused.Ok checked with GridPane and it’s nothing to do with their hosting stack.
Tried a conflict test and nothing.
Seems to be when the video is set to autoplay, and the controls are turned off.
But only on iOS devices. And only on larger videos. So weird.
But I guess the workaround is to have to videos and to rows, and disable one on mobile, and the other on all other sizes.Good point it could be something to do with hosting I guess.
I’m sure Thanasis will charm in with his findings.
Seems to be iOS 14, works ok on android devices from what I can see.
I’ll get in touch with GridPane as well to see if they can make any suggestions, maybe blocked by their security or optimisation stack.
ThanksBeen looking at this with Thanasis it’s an odd one. Doesn’t actually appear to be Impeka. What seems to happen is mobile now blocks videos over a certain size. As reducing these videos from 1080p to 480p made them work again. Very odd. I think I’ll end up with 2 videos and 2 rows, mobile and desktop.
Anyone else got any knowledge on mobile browsers now blocking large video files? Seems to be both Chrome and Safari.
7) The menu options that have a shrink, just seem to snap to the smaller size, would be nice to have a scale animation instead? Example. Not sure if this is possible,
Hi Marius, I have had issue with this in the past. But fortunately these kind of clients have a small budget, and I can usually commission the Greatives team to build me a custom header design from supplied visuals. Which is great.
Would be nice to have some simple options, like search and basket for example which can be quickly and easily added to the mobile header (from theme options, for clients with limited budget), as I think this is becoming common place for UI/UX now. Even it means we have a smaller logo area.
all sorted, thanks for that 🙂
working ok for me now, thanks
yeah super odd one, I’m sure it was OK a while ago, I think its either the recent update to iOS14.6 or the recent impeka update to 1.1.1 which happened at a similar time.
Just checked a site which runs MoveDo rather than Impeka, and all is fine with that one. Very odd.
Phone settings all seem fine.
Weirdly the impeka site is fine on an iPad running 14.6Thank you 🙂
Unfortunately not, still not working on iOS 14.6, Safari Browser and Chrome Browser.
I think topbar on mobile, makes the header on mobile so large, its not good to use sticky. With a normal header like this, and right left options you could have a sticky header, quite shallow, with a search and basket for eCommerce sites, customer often want this type of mobile layout.
Thanks again
Dan
Thanks both. If you need an example try here. This footer is set to left align everywhere except mobile where it should centre everything. All items are set to inherit. You will notice everything works other than the divider element.
