I wonder, why the portfolio grid element doesn’t allow to order by “menu order”. On of my clients needs to order the items manually and I consider to use a plugin to allow a drag-drop-interface for him. Unfortunately this would only work, if menu order is set for a grid or other view. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bernhard

Seems the date of update matters. You have to update/save all the post in porfolio area to let the order be what you want. Same problem too. Would be nice to set an order with some properties.

We also wonder why this is not a default WP option for any post type. On the other hand, we prefer to avoid adding a built-in function in a commercial theme. Fortunately, there are quite a few plugins out there that work as they should.

    Thanks Kosmas,

but isn’t this just a small change in the code of the portfolio CPT? I guess you created this PT and as WP knows the option to order by menu order, why didn’t you add it to the portfolio CPT?

Thanks for a great year with Impeka and hopefully big plans for the future.

    Kind regards,
    Bernhard

    Hello Bernhard,

Maybe we are not on the same page here 🙂

In our custom projects, we also need an easy way to sort the items in custom post types from the backend. It would be great to have what WooCommerce implemented (check the Sorting option in All Products backend page), but unfortunately not WordPress. With this option, you don’t need any 3rd party plugins and this is what we prefer not to implement with custom code. Of course, it’s feasible but it’s also easier and safer to be provided by the framework.

Let me know if I am missing anything.

    Hello Kosmas,

we are both on the same page i.e. ordering a CPT is not a WP core feature, unfortunately.

I revisited my question above and I have to admit, that I must have been blind. The ordering by “Post Order”, that the portfolio grid offers, seems to be exactly, what I missed. Works great!

Could you confirm, that Post Order is in fact “menu_order”.

Anyway, this solves all of the ordering problems, as I can now use this plugin:https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/real-custom-post-order/ for my clients. It is very lightweight and free.

    Hello Bernhard,

That’s correct, the Post order is the menu order.
I think that we also use the same plugin, still cannot understand why this is not a WP core feature.

Anyway, I am glad you can now sort your projects as you want.
